San Diego HS Teacher Terrance Lee Smith Held On $350K Bond for 2 Year Sex Relationship with Teen Girl
This popular California teacher was nominated for recognition as one of the county’s best educators. Unfortunately, he was arrested this week for allegedly having a two-year sexual relationship with an underage female student. The ninth grade English teacher is named as Terrance Lee Smith, 32, of Chula Vista and he was arrested at a Sweetwater Union High School District office on Monday morning. The victim’s mother contacted police last week after learning of the alleged affair.
Allegedly, the affair took place between 2006 and 2008, starting when her daughter was 16-years-old, the San Diego Union-Tribunereported. According to the police, the ninth-grade English teacher and the teen had sex on several occasions on campus after hours, as well as in his house and car.

Investigators also have found evidence of other encounters between the two that cannot be prosecuted because of the statue of limitations. Police say the alleged victim never had Smith as her teacher. Smith was booked into San Diego Central Jail on 14 counts of sexual contact with a minor. He is being held on $350,000 bail.
Officials believe that Smith, who has a wife and two children, had sexual relations with at least one other underage student who has not been identified at this time.
Smith, who is well-respected and popular with his students, was one of 42 local educators nominated for a 2012-13 teacher of the year award, but did not win.
Most students are shocked at the allegations and can not believe their well beloved teacher is in jail. Smith was a popular teacher wo had many students who adored him.
Smith has worked at the Chula Vista high school as a teacher since 2005 and he is currently on paid administrative leave.
Our Take: We can't believe this teacher held a relationship with a teen for two years until now. Where were her parents and why didn't anyone else find out before now? Its a shame that we can't trust the teachers that spend more time with our children during the week than possibly we do. Something has to change.
