Two Las Vegas Teachers Arrested on Solicitation of Sex by Student
Two teachers in Las Vegas were arrested Monday and accused of having sex with a 16-year-old Basic High School student, Henderson police said.
Bambi Dewey, 32, and John Stalmach, 31, were each booked at the Henderson Detention Center on charges of solicitation of a minor for sex.
Stalmach was booked an extra charge on a charge of sexual conduct between a teacher and a student. All of the recommended charges are felonies.
Police say Dewey and Stalmach are a couple and had sex with the teen girl at their home in Henderson. Stalmach also had sex with the girl without Dewey, police said.
Both teachers work at different schools in the same county. Dewey teaches at Brown Junior High School in Henderson, and Stalmach teaches at Dailey Elementary School in Las Vegas.
Both corrupted teachers Stalmach and Dewey taught at Brown Middle when the girl was a student there and the sex acts occurred between November 2011 and January.
It all began when the student started spending time with the teachers away from school which included babysitting Dewey's children and having sleep overs at the couple's home.
While the sex acts occurred during the 2011 Christmas break, the students parents allowed her to stay over the two teachers' home. This is when the student stated they all drank whiskey and had three-way sex. The couple also shared and smoked marijuana together with the student.
The teacher couple denied giving the student alcohol and drugs but did eventually admit to having sex with the student later.
Dewey and Stalmach never married but were a couple for several years. Reports state Stalmach would not commit to marriage.
The couple, who dated for several years, have since broken up because Stalmach would not commit to marriage, Dewey told police.
The duo teachers are both being held on bond. Dewey is being held on $20,000 bond and Stalmach on $60,000 bond.
The state of Nevada says it's a felony for anyone 21 or older and employed in a position of authority at a school to engage in sexual conduct with a student.
The crime is considered a category C felony if the student is 16 or 17, but it is a more serious category B felony if the student is 14 or 15.
