Charlotte School Teacher Arrested on Assault of a Child is Held on Bond
A teacher at University Meadows Elementary School was arrested last Wednesday on charges of assaulting a child under 12 years old, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police confirmed.
Gail Attaway, a kindergarten through third grade teacher at the school, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault on a child under 12.
According to WBTV, they reported a person complained and said Attaway grabbed a six-year-old boy's head just after 9 a.m. on January 17, while at the school.
The police report indicates the child had bruises and scratches, but did not need medical treatment.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed Attaway's employment last Thursday morning, and said she is suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
A warrant was our for her arrest and police booked her into the Mecklenburg County Jail Wednesday. Her bond was set at $30,000.
Attaway has a scheduled court appearance in late March.
